Nesting Birds

The National Trust were on the beach today setting up the protection zone in the middle of Beadnell Bay where Little Terns nest in very vulnerable spots on the sand. Trooper's walks right along the beach will be curtailed for the summer but he'll get used to it.

5th May09, High Newton, 3pm

This is a Ringed Plover's nest and beautiful egg - not a protected species but worth looking after anyway. I was with the warden at the time or I wouldn't have gone so close. One quick picture then we left the birds to return. It's a timely reminder to us all to watch where we put our feet (or paws) as we clump along the sand.

Trooper seems happy enough down the other end of the beach.
