Roses are Red...

Daisy - The Dog on The Grassy Knoll

17th June 2013, Embleton Bay, 9am

In amongst the grasses on the shore...

...there are wild roses. This year, more than I've noticed before, they have a beautiful perfume which is carrying for a few yards in the warm air...

...but most people walk along the beach and miss them.  Which is a shame.

you-wee because said...

Rosa rugosa, or the Japanese rose, is a rose that is native to more or less whole Asia and was brought to Europe by navigators in 1845. The whole island of Sylt is covered with this wild rose, too. And every summer this is one of my favourite photo motifs, too.

Today we'll get up to 37°C in Southern Germany - so enjoy your balmy breeze at your Northumberland coast, Andy!

Uwe.
